Saying Goodbye to Drop2Stop at Martin’s: Why Safe Drug Disposal Still Matters

At the 525 Foundation, our mission has always been to prevent substance misuse through education, awareness, and action. One of the most impactful ways we’ve done that is through our Drop2Stop program, which provided safe, convenient locations for the disposal of unused and expired medications.

That’s why it’s with a heavy heart that we announce the discontinuation of Drop2Stop at area Martin’s Supermarkets. We are incredibly grateful to Martin’s for supporting this initiative and providing a space for people to properly dispose of medications over the years. Their commitment to prevention has made a real difference in our community, and we truly appreciate their partnership.

Why Safe Drug Disposal is Still a Priority

Even though Drop2Stop will no longer be available at Martin’s, safe medication disposal remains as important as ever.

💊 70% of people misusing prescription opioids get them from family or friends—often straight from the medicine cabinet.

💊 Unused medications left in the home can be dangerous, leading to accidental poisonings or misuse.

💊 Flushing medications or tossing them in the trash isn’t safe—they can harm the environment or still end up in the wrong hands.

Disposing of unused medications the right way saves lives.

Where Can You Safely Dispose of Medications Now?

Even though Drop2Stop is no longer available at Martin’s, there are still permanent medication drop boxes throughout our community. These locations provide a safe and responsible way to get rid of expired or unneeded medications anytime.

🚮 Find a permanent drop box near you at:

🔹 Local police departments

🔹 Select pharmacies and hospitals

🔹 Other community-based disposal locations

For a full list of our drop box locations, visit https://www.525foundation.org/drop2stoplocations or check with your local law enforcement agency.

Join Us for DEA National Take Back Day – April 26, 2025

Another great opportunity to dispose of medications safely is DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

📍 What is it? A national initiative where communities across the country host safe medication disposal events.

📍 Why does it matter? It prevents drug misuse, protects our environment, and raises awareness about the importance of proper disposal.

📍 How can I participate? Find a Take Back Day location near you by visiting https://www.dea.gov/takebackday and help make drug disposal a priority in our community.

Final Thoughts

While we are sad to see Drop2Stop go from Martin’s Supermarkets, our commitment to safe medication disposal has not changed. We hope you will continue making this a priority by using permanent drop boxes and participating in Take Back Day.

Together, we can keep medications out of the wrong hands, protect our families, and make our community safer. 💙
